Discover the Astonishing Beauty of the Tri-Colored Kelimutu Lake

Mount Kelimutu is a volcano located in Flores and is part of the infamous “Ring of Fire.” For travelers, the most significant attraction is the tri-colored Kelimutu Lake at the peak of the craters, 1690m above sea level. This natural wonder is composed of three lakes, distinguished by their differing colors and hues that change over time, making it a breathtaking and surreal experience. The local people consider it a resting place for departed souls; hence, it holds significant cultural and spiritual importance. The first lake, named Tiwu Ata Mbupu, is the lake of the ancestors’ souls, while the second lake, Tiwu Nuwa Muri Koo Fai, is the lake of young people’s souls. The third lake, Tiwu Ata Polo, is called the lake of evil spirits and is situated 1.5km to the west of the other two lakes. The best time to enjoy this magical place is during the early morning when the clouds have yet to obstruct the view. Many visitors prefer to watch the sunrise and then explore the lake’s surroundings, making it an unforgettable experience.
